The Hasselblad is one of the most expensive brands of cameras that professional photographers use. It is also the most coveted one due to its amazing quality and unique system that aids in capturing better qualities.
They are a Swedish company that was founded in 1941 and they are famous for their high end medium format cameras and lenses which are designed for both professional photographers and serious photography aficionados alike.
One of the most famous photographic works that was recorded using their camera brand was the first moon landing – a feat that was accomplished by precision, dedication and attention to detail, traits that are also espoused by the Hasselblad Company.
The Masters Award
Since 2001 they have hosted one of the most prestigious awards a photographer could ever receive for exceptional work on their various chosen fields. Almost every year they invite some of the most well-known established photographers and some of the most rapidly rising stars to submit their work for various categories. The entries will be received in May and the winners of the event will be announced on January of the following year.
This 2018 Hasselblad will be giving away 11 of their medium-format cameras to the 11 lucky individuals who will win the competition. This world renowned Masters Competition is a prestigious pedestal from which a lot of aspiring photographers from different parts of the world can use to gain an ample push in their chosen careers.
The chosen photographers are asked to submit three of their most exceptional takes that in their belief showcases their photographic prowess. The winners are given the title Hasselblad Master, an honor that any serious photographer would want to have.
This year the number of entries rose to an astounding 31,500 photos for the 11 categories of which only one winner per category is allowed. The number of photographers that have submitted their entries to vie for the Masters title has almost doubled in number compared to that of the 2016 Masters Award. The countries to have the highest participating photographers come from the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Russia, and the United States of America.
To ensure the integrity of the results, the competition jury comes from a pool of the most respected and renowned names in the photo industry. They are composed of past Hasselblad Master Winners, Hasselblad Ambassadors, and in addition prominent photographers and experts that are recognized also by the International community.
The categories for this prestigious Hasselblad Award competition are the following in alphabetical order: Aerial (this is a new addition in honor of the company’s longstanding relationship with aerial photography), Architecture, Fine Art, Fashion/Beauty, Landscape, Portrait, Product, Project/21 (Under 21), Street/Urban, Wedding, and Wildlife.
Now the competition has reached its final stretch and the voting for the ultimate Hasselblad Masters are now open to the public. The winner of the public vote will earn one vote. There are 25 votes in total, where 24 votes come from the trusted jury who will judged the photos instead of the photographers.
