Gone are the days when the GoPro series was the top choice when it comes to portable and compact 4K action cameras. With other players marketing more affordable models, camera enthusiasts as well as adventurers who want to capture great moments now have options. The latest addition to the line of action cameras from ThiEYE Technologies, Ltd, the ThiEYE i60+ 4K Action Camera is another gadget to check out.
Affordable and yet powerful, the successor to the ThiEYE i60 4K camera also comes with an interesting appeal, from design to performance.
Design and Body
In terms of looks and physical attributes, it is similar to the form factor of GoPro Hero, that is, a square body frame that is designed with a protruding body to protect the sensor. It also has a singled out lens. Conversely, the location of the buttons is also the same, one on the top and one in front. But the only distinction between the two is the presence of two buttons on the side of the ThiEYE i60+ which are used to navigate the menus.
For file transfers and charging, ports, including a microUSB port, can be found on the left while the shutter button is located on top. The rear part accommodates the display with the buttons for navigation seen on the right. This is also where the toggle switch to connect the device to the internet.
For packaging, it is also similar to the GoPro Hero model, with the camera enclosed inside a hard plastic shell together with the accessories that come with the package.
Action Camera Features
- 4K Video Recording Capability
This action camera is able to capture up to 4K footage at 30fps as well as 2.7K, also at 30fps. Moreover, users can have more flexibility while editing videos with these shooting modes. It also has a time-lapse feature that can be used on top of its feature to set video intervals. These are on top of the slow motion feature with two modes: 720p at 120fps and 1080p at 60fps.
- Zooming Options
The ThiEYE 160+ is designed with a wide angle with zoom to expand the field of view up to 170 degress. This feature is better than other available action cameras in the market today, with 4x zooming capability. As for using it as a dashboard cam, this camera also has a Car Mode while its loop recording feature plays a significant role in saving storage space.
- Quality of Video
Although digital noise sound is not its endearing feature, this camera is designed with a 12MP sensor that results to good images. Its available auto adjustments emit natural-looking color reproductions, with a tad of distortion of images on the edges, for capturing action videos. However, there is no stabilization mode that should have been responsible for a more stable video capturing.
Other features include a built-in 2” display at the rear, settings and selecting modes, 1050mAh Li-Ion rechargeable battery which can last up to one-and-a-half-hours of shooting while occasionally turning the device on and off. Charging time is around 50 minutes.
As for available accessories, these include waterproof housing, 360 degrees rotating VR buckle, flat adhesive mount, anti-fog inserts, ¼-inch adapter, thumb screw, skeleton backdoor, double adhesive stickers and a carrying pouch. Other accessories users can purchase include a wrist strap, chest harness, bike mount and floating hand grip.
Overall, the ThiEYE i60+ 4K action camera is a powerful and affordable video photography device. Compact, handy and lightweight, this camera, along with its features, is a good buy.
