Drift HD Ghost Review: The Camera with Unique Features and Design
When it comes to action cameras, there is no shortage in choices. But among the many makes and models that are trying to defeat the pioneer, GoPro, Drift Innovations managed to differentiate themselves from the box-like action cameras that amass the market today. Presenting the Drift HD Ghost, a camera with unique features and design. Here’s our review for the Drift HD Ghost to properly guide you on the right camera action choice.
Rather than following the box-like action camera trend, the company came up with a slimmer and longer body that is shaped like a bullet for its camera. The shape, however, makes it unsuitable for chest mounting. Still, it is perfect for POV mounting on masks, goggles, and helmets. The camera is also equipped with a Gorilla Glass 2-inch LCD for instant playback as well as a battery that can last up to 3 hours, thanks to its unique shape.
Sharing and internet connectivity is not a problem with the Drift HD Ghost since it has a built-in Wi-Fi that comes in handy when sharing videos and photos online. Of course, this isn’t possible if you don’t have the iOS or Android app for sharing. Now, you can transfer clips and movies for viewing, uploading, or editing.
What is in the box will amaze you. Drift includes a wearable RF remote control that can be used for starting and stopping video recording as well as changing modes. The colored LEDs will notify you whenever you press the button so you will be aware of what you are doing. Plus, the remote control can be used in operating multiple cameras.
There are a few things that you can’t find inside the box, and these are a memory card and a protective housing, although it can take a microSDHC card when used. This means you will have to buy one before you can start taking photos or recording videos. On the other hand, the lack of protective housing is due to the fact that the camera is durable enough. The ports, card, and battery are located under a removable hatch that comes with a waterproof seal. In case of damage, you can replace the lens.
Drift Innovations have managed to create an action camera that is easy to use. With the LCD built in, users will be able to set up their shots, change their settings quickly, and playback clips and check photos instantly. On the other side of the camera is a threaded mount that provides users with various mounting options.
The HD Ghost only measures 1.3 inches wide, 2 inches high, 4.1 inches deep, and weighs about 5.9 ounces. Because of its weight and size, it can easily be attached to a helmet or goggle. The lens can cover up to 170 degrees field of view, which gives users a wide, distorted view.
When mounting, there is a need to turn the camera horizontally to level the view. It can be hard to test the result of the shoot with just the use of the LCD that is why it is more advantageous that it has Wi-Fi connectivity. Still, the Wi-Fi is only designed to connect directly to a smartphone via its app. The latter provides a preview of what the camera is seeing and control over the settings.
If you are looking for an action camera that is not as expensive as those made by big names, perhaps this is perfect for you. With that, we hope you’ve learned a thing or two from this Drift HD Ghost review.
