A new member has been added to Leica’s APS-C system lineup. The Leica CL is the sort of camera you would want to bring along to document your day. It has a compact body which makes it ideal for taking spontaneous photos. Plus, that shooting experience is made so much better with the camera’s state-of-the-art technology.
Addition to APS-C family
The CL is the second APS-C system that Leica has to offer. It joins the Leica TL2, which it shares a lot of features with, but the two models are quite different from each other. While the TL2 sports a rather futuristic look, the CL sports a more iconic design. But despite their differences, both cameras can be equipped with the various TL-lenses to create outstanding photos.
Innovative technologies
The Leica CL is packed with innovative technologies, and one of its most outstanding features is the electronic viewfinder equipped with EyeRes technology that was specially designed for the camera. The EyeRes viewfinder offers an impressive viewing experience thanks to a latency below the threshold of perception as well as a 2.36-pixel resolution. The viewfinder also gives composition control to users by allowing them to see the final image before pressing the shutter release.
With a 24MP APS-C format sensor, a Maestro II series processor, and 49 metering point autofocus working together, the Leica CL guarantees outstanding image quality no matter the situation.
Not only is the still image photography capabilities of the camera great, its video functions are equally impressive as well. The camera can take videos up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.
Connectivity
Instant sharing is very much valued in this age of social media sharing, and the Leica CL is equipped with features to deliver on such needs. The camera has an integrated WiFi module to allow the easy sending of stills and videos to computers, smartphones, or tablets. The media sent can then be shared to email and social networks via the accompanying Leica CL app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices.
The app also has a remote capabilities that allow the mobile device to function as on off-camera viewfinder where users can modify different exposure settings.
Simple and user-friendly handling
Leica has opted for a simple design for the CL camera, which makes it the perfect model to carry around just about anywhere for spontaneous snaps. In addition to its simple yet iconic design, Leica has made the CL an easy-to-use camera.
Laid out on the top plate are all of the essential controls. Accompanying the electric viewfinder are two dials for adjusting aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. The convenient location of basic controls makes it easy to take photographs even without taking the camera away from your eyes.
The top plate also features an additional display that provides information about settings and exposure parameters. This, together with a well-designed release pressure point, gives users total control over the final image.
The Leica CL in black will be available by the end of November.
