Leica has announced a new addition to its M series. And it could be the most inconspicuous addition to the series yet. The Leica M10-P is a pricier version of the M-10 and is being touted as the stealthiest addition to the series thanks to a quieter shutter and the omission of the classic red dot logo.
This new model was officially announced in mid-August 2018 and this article will provide details about the prized features of this latest offering from the top-notch German brand.
Silent Shutter unique to the Leica M10-P
The Leica M10-P’s most notable feature is keeping with the philosophy of the M series. It’s newly designed shutter is virtually silent to the ear. This makes the M10-P the quietest of all the cameras in the series, both analog and digital. The silent shutter allows you to capture moments that require utmost discretion unobtrusively.
Leica M10-P Touchscreen LCD
The M10-P also comes equipped with a touchscreen LCD, allowing you to position the area to magnify in live view. Or, you can double-tap in order to jump straight to an enlarged view. Another option is the swipe and pinch-to-zoom in playback mode.
The M10-P further assists photographers in capturing a perfectly framed and level shot, thanks to its built-in Level Gauge. This time-saving feature helps photographers get their perfect shot, right at the press of the shutter.
Other features you might find are:
- 24MP CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 100-50,000
- 3″ LCD, Wi-Fi
- Rangefinder-style mirrorless
- Magnesium alloy body
- Max resolution 5952 x 3992
- 3:2 image ratio
- 24 megapixels
- BP-SCL5 lithium-ion battery & charger
- A minimum shutter speed of 8 sec and maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 sec
It’s worth noting though that neither camera the M10 nor the M10-P has I/O ports built on them; not even USB. It also does not have an image stabilizer or a built-in flash.
Leica M10-P exclusive finish
Leica’s M series is known for its exquisite styling and the M10-P is certainly no exception. The newest addition is classically minimalist in that it features only subtle Leica lettering on its top plate. Rounding out that high-level design, this particular model also comes with a color-matched metal hot shoe cover, which gives the top plate a seamless look and sleek style.
Praise from an expert
Art director and photographer Matthieu Bitton lauds praise on the Leica M10-P. He singles it out for performing efficiently in such a discreet manner. “The M10-P feels like stealth version of my beloved M film cameras. It fully retains that signature M nature, while being so quiet and unobtrusive that my subjects barely realize I’m photographing them. That’s such an important thing in the type of photography I do. The less I distract my subjects, the more genuine moments I’m able to capture”, he remarks.
