World’s largest image sensor manufacturer and consumer electronics giant, Sony Corporation, launched the newest addition to its lens lineup a few days ago. The compact FE 50mm F/2.8 macro lens is a high-end yet affordable full frame lens with a minimum distance of 16cm and is lightweight at just only 236g.
Not only does it boast of versatility in terms of shooting in landscape, portrait and macro but it is also compatible with APS-C cameras and offers a 1:1 maximum magnification ration on full-frame bodies.
FE 50mm F2.8 Macro Lens Specifications
The Sony Full Frame Macro Lens is designed with an extra low dispersion glass and has reduced axial chromatic aberration that allows for crisp and sharp images. Moreover, despite its minimal focus distance, it has a wider focal length.
This lens can be paired with SteadyShot™ INSIDE and the user can expect results that are free from blur whether zoomed in or handheld. It also features a 7-blade circular aperture in lieu of the standard polygon-shaped type for smooth defocusing, making it more natural and rounded. The mechanical and optical construction of this lens results to less ghosting and glare. Additionally, it is equipped with a focus hold button that allows the user to lock focus at the current setting as well as with a focus range limiter that allows for the fastest possible autofocus response.
What it lacks in terms of speed with its f/2.8 aperture it makes up for its compact design. The design allows more room for versatility since it is capable of capturing portraits, details and scenery all at once. It is also designed to be compatible with 1.4x and 2x teleconverter lenses.
Other features include a dust and resistance-free body, Sony A-mount, 35mm full frame, maximum magnification ratio of 1.0x, filter diameter of 55mm, circular aperture and a body-integrated image stabilization system.
Price
The Sony Full Frame FE 50mm F2.8 Macro Lens will carry a selling price of $500, half the price of the other lens from Sony which sells for $1,100. While it is still expensive as opposed to the $250-price of the FE 50mm F1.8 lens, this new lens is a macro lens with ED glass elements and perfect from photographers who require macro lenses. As for the price it is more affordable than the other lens from Sony and is compatible with the A7 II series, the professional cameras from Sony with weather-sealed bodies.
For potential owners, this versatile Sony Full Frame FE 50mm F2.8 Macro Lens will be available in the market this September 2016.
