Tech giant, Canon U.S.A. Inc, is proud to announce two new models to its professional Cinema EOS line: the Canon EOS C200 and EOS C200B digital cameras. Designed for TV Production and filmmaking, these third generation cameras are equipped with high-end features combined with the characteristics of entry level cinema cameras fit for documentaries, wildlife, event productions and film.
Canon U.S.A. President and COO, Yuichi Ishizuka expressed the company’s aim to allow production users to discover what they can do with HDR cinematography and enhance creativity. They have come up with innovative solutions to ensure this dream is achieved.
The Canon EOS 200 and EOS C200B will showcase two formats for 4K video recording, the MP4 and the Cinema RAW Light which are perfect for different production applications. On top of these, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, the first dual DIGIC DV6 image processing system, has been used for the two digital cameras.
What are these two EOS Digital Cinema Cameras made of?
The Canon EOS C200 is a complete package which can be used right away. It comes with an LCD attachment and LCD monitor as well as a camera grip and handle unit. The OLED Electronic View Finder (EVF) also boasts of a high resolution 1.77 million-dot display.
Conversely, the Canon EOS C200B while having the same specs, except for the LCD Monitor LM-V1 that only comes with the EOS C200, does not have an EVF and the accessories mentioned above. This is to give users the freedom to optimize their shots by using the camera with other configurations, such as gimbals and drones for aerial shooting.
Image processing system
The new image processing system, the DIGIC DV6, is complemented by an 8.85 MP CMOS sensor not only to capture HDR videos in high quality, but also, to enable high-resolution data imaging and video recording. These include Full HD (1920×1080), 2K (2048×1080), 4K UHD (3840×2160) and 4K DCI (4096×2160). This combination of the image processing system and the CMOS sensor supports the two 4K formats.
4K formats
The first of the two, the Cinema RAW Light, is responsible with data size reduction, from 1/3 to 1/5 of a Cinema RAW file without compromising grading flexibility. This streamlines post production and results to a rich dynamic range. Moreover, this format comes in 4K 60p/50p at 10 bit and 30p/25p/24p at 12 bit for internal data recording, using a CFastTM card.
The second one, the MP4 format, can be used concurrently with the CFastTMcard and stored to an SD card for editing offline. This format also accepts 4K video recordings as imported data using SD media cards at 60/50/30/25/24P at 8 bit.
Other Features of EOS 200 and EOS C200B Cameras
Both the Canon EOS C200 and Canon EOS C200B digital cameras boast of the Innovative Focus Control feature for precision when shooting in 4K. These models use Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology for faster focusing by way of expanding the distance of the subject. This also results to more accurate continuous AF and face detection AF while using EF lenses.
Support for UHD recording allows for use in cinema and broadcasting applications or scenarios where long recording times are needed while still maintaining top image quality. The digital cinema cameras also offer slow motion Full HD recording support at up to 120fps to help ensure every frame is captured in exquisite detail.
Aside from allowing UHD recording, these cameras also offer Full HD recording support in slow motion at up to 120fps. Other features include Wide DR Gamma, Over Sampling HD Processing and In-Camera ND Filter, among others.
Set to be released in August 2017, the Canon EOS C200 and EOS C200B Digital Cinema Cameras are estimated to cost at $7,499 and $5,999, respectively.
