With the addition of the CN-E20mm T1.5 L F lens, the Canon Cinema EOS System family bumps up the number of its members to 21. The full-manual prime lens adds to the options cinematographers can use in different shooting scenarios. Lying between the 14mm and 24mm offerings, the lens provides users with more flexibility when framing scenes.
Expanding cinema reach
Canon USA Inc president and COO Yuichi Ishikuza expressed excitement at seeing how users will make use of the new lens. The CN-E20mm is part of Canon’s effort to expand its cinema reach, a campaign that started in November 2011 with the launch of the Cinema EOS System and EF Cinema Lenses.
Since the launch, Canon has gradually added more members into the family. The lineup now includes Compact Zoom, CINE-SERVO, COMPACT-SERVO, Prime, and Zoom lenses. All of which have been used by different users to achieve various creative purposes. The addition of the new 20mm prime lens adds even more options for better content creation.
A popular focal length
The 20mm prime has always been a popular focal length. With the CN-E20mm, Canon has created a lens capable of delivering outstanding optical performance in a compact form. It is part of Canon’s effort to further contribute to the cinematography.
Canon’s newest 20mm prime lens provides 4K resolution from the center of the image all the way towards the periphery. As such, resulting images are always of high quality, especially when used with full-frame cameras, like the new EOS C700 FF digital cinema camera.
Beautiful bokeh
Bokeh has become a nice addition to images over the years, and the CN-E20mm is continuing the tradition of providing beautiful bokeh. It is able to achieve it through its 11-blade aperture diaphragm and T number of 1.5. And sticking with tradition, the new lens still offers that familiar warm, natural-looking tone provided by other Canon Cinema Prime Lenses.
The new CN-E20mm doesn’t stray far from other lenses in its family. Like the rest, it too comes with 300 degrees of focus ring rotation and a minimized focus breathing.
The addition of the CN-E20mm T1.5 L F prime lens to the Canon Cinema EOS System family extends the options cinematographers can use for framing a scene. With it, users have even more choices to pick from to create better content in the future.
The CN-E20mm T1.5 L F lens will start shipping in fall 2018.
